CHANGES TO THE BIKE CIRCUIT FOR CHALLENGE PEGUERA MALLORCA 2024

CHANGES TO THE CPM BIKE COURSE FOR CHALLENGE PEGUERA MALLORCA

New route minimizes critical points and enhances race control
The revised route removes 12 km per lap of the previous course and introduces new roads.

At Challenge Peguera Mallorca, our primary goal is to deliver the best international triathlon experience in the municipality of Calvià. Over time, we have been developing an alternative to the current bike course to eliminate one of the segments we identified as particularly critical—the section between the village of Calvià and the road leading to Coll des Tords. The challenges identified in this 24 km stretch included:

– Bidirectional traffic on narrow roads with cyclists riding in opposite lanes.
– Sharp curves with exposed roots in fast sections with narrow lanes, offering no escape routes.
– Limited emergency access for ambulances, medical staff, and race officials in this part of the course.

To address these issues, the CPM24 team, in collaboration with the Calvià Local Police Department, has designed an alternative bike course that will continue to run entirely within the municipality of Calvià, while eliminating the segments marked as critical. The new route will debut at the race on October 19, 2024, incorporating new roads to meet the necessary standards for the distance.

KEY FEATURES OF THE NEW BIKE COURSE FOR CPM24

With this course modification, the organization aims to reduce risks during the bike segment while improving overall race control. As in previous years, the course will be closed to traffic and fully monitored by local police, volunteers, and the organizing team. The highlights of the new course include:

  • Restricted passage through the village of Calvià, now limited to just one sector.
  • New routes added primarily through the areas of Magaluf, Nova Santa Ponça, and Santa Ponça.
  • Inclusion of iconic locations within the municipality, such as the Les Illes Malgrats viewpoint and the Via de la Cruz in Santa Ponça.

The circuit is made up of 2 laps of 45 km on the following route You can see the new route here below (strava), or download the map at this link.
